Your New Favourite Fruits: Pineberries & Bubbleberries

If you haven’t figured it out yet, pineberries are not natural fruits, they are hybrids of strawberries. While bubbleberries are a heirloom variety and not a hybrid. Making it all natural. Pineberries are white strawberries with a citrus taste, while bubbleberries taste like Hubba Bubba bubblegum.

Phillip Neilsen, an importer, is responsible for bringing the unique berries to Australia and they are now slowly making their way to the States.

In conversation with Mashable, he said that the decided to import these berries after he visited Europe a few years ago. “We went to a nursery that had these strawberries, and we thought they looked fantastic so we asked if we could bring them to Australia.”

Apparently they still taste like the original fruit, but take a bite and you get a hint of the pineapple in the pineberry. This isn’t the first fruit hybrid to make the news, but it definitely won’t be the last!
