Opinion: Chicken Sashimi or Salmonella?

on

When it comes to food (or anything really) the internet can be dark and full of terrors. Apparently, in Japan, Chicken Sashimi is actually a thing (you know, raw chicken). Food and Wine (knowingly, I might add) unleashed a whole world of pain on us when they shared this information with us via the tweet below.

Needless to say, I lost my appetite for the day and contemplated swearing off chicken for life (obviously the thought was short lived). However, it did invoke an enormous amount of soul searching. In a society where eating raw eggs is frowned upon (bake with your mother, you’ll know what I’m talking about) who would risk it?

While the article on Food and Wine was insightful and helpful (especially if you are thinking of trying raw chicken, in which case, feel free to delete my contact information) it still couldn’t distract numerous Twitter users from the fact that raw chicken is gross.

I think Anthony said it best:

I think it’s safe to say that we were all victimised by that plated up salmonella. It’s hard enough to eat sushi or rare steak as it is without the thought of hundreds of parasites invading your food but we’re usually rewarded with how delicious it is. On the other hand, we have no idea how chicken sashimi (aka food poisoning on a plate) tastes and I’m pretty sure we don’t want to find out.

Moral of the story, if you want to see what raw chicken tastes like, you better stick to eating that raw cookie dough that mom warned you about – at least we know that tastes good.
