Bharawan Machili Recipe
Bharawan machili is a popular North Indian dish, made by stuffing fish with a mixture of mashed potato and spices. Served on top of lettuce leaves, it’s a delicious, wholesome way to prepare fish.
Serve this fish dish as a side during the main course of a meal or as a starter.

Ingredients
- 4 medium herrings
- 500 grams potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed
- 1 large onion
- 1 tsp Ginger grated
- 1 tsp garlic grated
- 2 green chillies finely chopped
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1 tsp Vinegar
- 3/4 gram cupflour
- 50 grams butter
- 2/3 cup Water
- 1 tbsp bread crumbs
- Oil for deep frying
For garnish
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves
- 1 lemon sliced
- 4 lettuce leaves

Instructions
- Fry the onion, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, green chilies and coriander in the butter until the onion turns golden.
- Allow this mixture to cool and then mix it into the mashed potatoes along with lemon juice and vinegar.
- Stuff the herrings with the mashed potatoes.
- Mix the water, gram flour and bread crumbs together until a batter is formed.
- Dip the herrings into this batter and deep fry until golden.
- Lay the fish atop the lettuce leaves and garnish with coriander leaves and lemon slices.
- Serve immediately.
