Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Kheer Recipe
One of the most popular romantic Hindi films of all time is Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, staring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan who fall in love on a trip through Europe.
Kajol, who plays Simaran convinces her father to allow her to go on a train trip across Europe before she gets married. However, on the trip she meets Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and falls in love with him, following which three’s a lot of drama, tears and eventually a resolution.
The Kheer Scene
The scene where Simran’s father realizes Simran is in love with Raj, is ironically the also when the family is celebrating her engagement. In celebration, Simran’s mother is serving kheer, a rice pudding dish which is a popular Indian dessert.
Make this kheer this weekend and settle down to re-watch DDLJ. Or, serve it as a dessert after lunch or dinner.

- 1/4 cup cooked rice
- 2 cups Full Fat Milk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg powder
- 1 tsp + 2ghee
- 1/2 tbsp Cashew nuts chopped
- 1.2 tbsp Almonds chopped
Ingredients

- Heat a teaspoon of ghee and roast the cashew nuts and almonds until they brown.
- Remove and set aside.
- Heat the milk, condensed milk, sugar and cooked rice in the same pan.
- Cook, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens on a low flame.
- After 12 -15 minutes, add the nutmeg powder and ghee.
- Place in a serving bowl and add the cashew nuts and almonds to the top as garnish.
- Serve and enjoy!
