The Hunger Games Mushroom Soup Recipe
After Katniss is presented to the public in the Capitol for the first time, she eats soup for dinner. This soup is made using mushrooms, thyme and onions; simple ingredients which combine to create a ‘silky’ soup.
Today, we’re sharing a recipe for this mushroom soup, adapted from The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook itself. During the winter, it’s the perfect, heart-warming appetiser.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds mixed mushrooms (button shiitake and porcini)
- 1 stick butter
- 5 green onions chopped
- 3 cloves garlic chopped
- 1 tsp fresh thyme chopped
- Sat and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp corn flour
- 4 cups chicken broth can be substituted with vegetable broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp apple cider

Instructions
- Thinly slice the mushrooms.
- Sauté the onions, garlic and thyme in the butter for a minute.
- Add the mushrooms and salt and pepper to taste
- Sauté for five minutes.
- Stir in the corn flour.
- Take off the stove and pour in the stock, stirring continuously.
- Place back on the stove and allow the mixture to come to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for two minutes.
- Take off the heat and add the heavy cream and cider.
- Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve and enjoy.
