Starbucks Is Set To Make Your Breakfast A Little Fancier With Sous Vide Egg Bites
Where will you find sous vide meals? Until now, probably only while watching re-runs of MasterChef and in gourmet restaurants. However, Starbucks is now taking the sous vide cooking technique mainstream with the launch of Sous Vide Egg Bites.
Egg Bites Get Fancy
Sous vide is a cooking technique which involves placing vacuumed sealed foods in a water bath and allowing them to cook.
The Sous Vide Egg Bites, therefore, are servings of egg and other ingredients sous vide together creating a wheat free, portable treat.
Starbucks revealed that their scientists had been developing the egg bites for three years as a response to customers asking for more protein rich menu items.
At present, there are two Egg Bites versions; one made with egg whites and roasted pepper, and another which has bacon and gruyere. Customers can get two egg bites for $4.45.
Reviews And Views
While the Sous Vide Egg Whites will be available to the hoi polloi staring January 10th, some lucky consumers have got to try them out a little early.
For instance, Sarah Seigel, an editorial assistant at Pop Sugar commented on the bacon ad gruyere sous vide eggs bites saying “this egg bite is salty, hearty, and has a nutty flavor from the gruyere. It’s incredibly satisfying and gives the taste of a traditional breakfast sandwich without the grease or excess bread.” Commenting on the egg white & roasted red pepper version she said “made with monterey cheese and pepper, the flavor really stands out. Light and not so salty, they’re blander than the bacon counterpart, but a healthier vegetarian option.”
Meanwhile, Health.com commented that “the Bites are soft and creamy, but without any cream or milk added. They’re also wheat-free and high in protein. We liked the bacon-gruyere version better, but both were luscious and very flavorful.”
Sounds like Sous Vide will be the way to go the next time you’re at Starbucks for breakfast.
