Turkey In Space: Astronauts Celebrate Thanksgiving In Space

Some celebrate Thanksgiving with family. Some do with friends. What if you are working in a far away place which is beyond the realms of what we call home? You celebrate with irradiated turkey and rehydratable corn. At least that’s what astronauts working in the International Space Station will do this Thanksgiving day.

In a Thanksgiving special video sent from the space station, NASA astronauts and Expedition 45 crewmembers showed off the variety of pre-packaged food being shared on the special day for giving thanks to the important things in life. “We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be up here on the International Space Station working and living in this amazing orbiting laboratory” said Kjell Lindgren, who is spending the year in space researching on the effects of space life on the human body.

The special Thanksgiving dinner will contain smoked turkey, candied yams, rehydratable corn, and potatoes au gratin, stored in sealed plastic packets. Lindgren and his crewmembers from Russia and Japan said that they will spend the holiday with some American football, Thanksgiving Day special dinner and a well deserved day off.
