Bengaluru’s Millet Mela Is A Hit, Generates 107 Crores in Business

on

A couple of months ago we told you that Bengaluru would be hosting our very own Millet Mela – Organics & Millets 2018 and it just concluded this Sunday! Unsurprisingly, it was a hit and generated Rs. 107 crores in business (that’s no millet thing).

The department of agriculture claimed that there was a 2.10 lakh turnout, which is certainly impressive as the mela provided a platform for farmers to connect with international and national markets.

A follow-up to last year’s National Trade Fair, this year’s event saw the signing of 34 memoranda of understanding (MoU) and letters of intent (LOI) worth Rs 27 crore. The fair hosted 357 stalls over a 3,500sqft area and participants included global names like JRMT Global General Trading LLC from Dubai, FiBL from Switzerland, IFOAM Asia from South Korea, besides buyers from the USA, Germany, Uganda, China and Malaysia.

Khanavali, the organic food court was a hit as it also played host to the Food and Nutritional Forum where conferences, competitions, workshops, demonstrative sessions and group discussions were held. Here’s hoping that more people go the millet way – it sure is healthier, plus it makes for a great beer flavor!
