The Michelin Guide Just Mistakenly Awarded A French Diner A Michelin Star

Michelin stars are highly coveted in the culinary world. Each year, the Michelin guide puts together a list of restaurants which have high levels of excellence in their fare, service, ambience and other factors. Recently, however, a hallowed Michelin star was accidentally awarded to a French cafe in Bourges.

Le Bouche à Oreille Gets A Star

Le Bouche à Oreille is in Bourges and is a diner or a cafe for the working man; it serves humble lasagna and beef bourguignon for around ten Euros –  that’s about Rs.750.

The star was supposed to go to another Le Bouche à Oreille, which is about 190 kilometres away and renowned for its lobster flan, chocolate pear crisp, veal and champagne on the side.

Customers Stream In

Of course, after the star was awarded to the restaurant, fine dining lovers went out of their way to visit the diner. Véronique Jacquet, the owner of the restaurant said “Suddenly, we were rushed off our feet. Reporters were coming in and then my son phoned me from Paris, where he lives. He almost died laughing.”

Social media, of course, had a ball; reports came in that some diners were bowled over by the ten euro lasagna.

The Michelin quickly updated the listing on their website, giving the star to the restaurant it was intended for. Claire Dorland-Clauzel, a director at Michelin told Le Parisien: “This is a technical mistake on a map. We have apologised to both establishments and we are sorry to have misled our clients.”
