Nanaimo Bars Recipe
This sinful dessert is called Canada’s national dessert for nothing. It is the perfect combination of everything we find delightful in a dessert, chocolatey, spongey goodness. It is the ultimate dessert dish to make for a special dinner to impress your friends with your new-found knowledge on world food.

Ingredients
- 20 tbsp of unsalted butter
- 5 tbsp of cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 1/4 cup of graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup of shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup of ground almonds
- 1 egg
- 2 cups of confectioner's sugar
- 3 tbsp of heavy cream
- 2 tbsp of powdered milk
- 2 tsp of vanilla extract
- 250 grams of bittersweet chocolate

Instructions
- In a saucepan on medium heat, heat 8 tbsp of butter, cocoa and sugar until its melted
- Add the crumbs, coconut, almonds and egg
- Line a baking pan with parchment paper and add the mixture into the pan
- Press evenly across the bottom and set aside
- Whip 8 tbsp of butter, confectioners' sugar, cream, powdered milk and vanilla in a bowl
- Beat the mixture until it becomes smooth and fluffy
- Spread this mixture over the chocolate layer
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the remaining butter and chocolate.
- Spread this mixture over the vanilla layer
- Refrigerate until the layers are set, for at least 4 hours
- Cut into squares and serve topped with some chocolate sauce (optional)
