Swiggy Is In The Process Of Testing A Cloud Kitchen Format In Parts of Bengaluru
Food delivery service and online food aggregator, Swiggy, has launched its cloud kitchen “The Bowl Company” in select areas of Bengaluru. Currently, the brand is offering a limited menu in Koramangala, which is a collaboration with popular restaurants in a joint venture to offer a selection where a restaurant does not have a physical presence. The platform facilitates lead generation, payment and delivery of orders for the partner restaurants.
In response to communication from Economic Times, a Swiggy spokesperson said, “We are looking at extending the food tech and delivery continuum by creating a platform where multiple brands can work from a single kitchen (external or Swiggy) to meet consumer demand in certain pockets of the city. This, along with our other initiatives like the single kitchen initiative with partner restaurants, is primarily aimed at creating a basket of options to meet consumer demand in select areas.”
Swiggy is one of the leading food delivery services in the country and adding on another feature only makes that stand out that much more. With the cloud kitchen format, they are definitely going to be growing in the market, giving customers more to choose from and enjoy. The pilot phase will run in parts of Bengaluru till the brand is sure of all the problems being tackled and dealt with and then they will expand it into other cities as well.
Last September, Swiggy raised $15 million from investors led by Bessemer Venture Partners and even Amazon was in talks to partner with Swiggy for food delivery services in the country. Despite backlash from partners and customers, Swiggy is still one of the leaders in the market and also one of the most popular food delivery startups in the country. The biggest competitor for Swiggy is Zomato who also provides the same services, including allowing customers to book tables at their chosen restaurants via the app and website.
