Thanks To The GST Bill Friday May Be An Early Night

on

It seems that the GST Bill has been on everyone’s mind for the last couple of months. However, the reality is finally setting in with just 3 days to go before it’s implemented. If you were planning on having a full on party or a late night dinner on Friday you may want to change your plans.

Restaurants and pubs may be shutting their doors early on Friday in light of the (latest, groan) hike in tax for consumers. They could be closing as early as 11:30 pm due to a technical glitch that could occur in bills post 12 am. I know, it sounds so very Y2K but the GST Bill implementation is definitely a reality unlike the former.

The Times of India reported that Vishwapal Shetty, owner of Sea Lord in Worli said “We want to avoid confusion and arguments. If a customer places an order before midnight, it will be billed as per existing rules, and if the same customer makes an additional request after midnight, it will fall under GST. This will make a tricky situation.”

Honestly, it makes perfect sense. We all know how our behaviour can change post a few cold ones. Restauranteurs say that, for now, they will add the additional tax burden. Eventually, if necessary, they will ease in price changes in the menu as it’s pretty unrealistic for all eateries to revamp their menus right away. Here’s hoping that our wallets can handle the price difference or a life of eating in is what we can look forward to.
