The 10 Best Food Destinations Across the Globe

It’s a question that every foodie has at least thought about once – “Which country has the best food?” 

We have long thought about the answer, but every time we try out a new cuisine we fall head over heals in love with it. We just can’t decide when it comes to food. CNN did the smart thing and asked their readership to vote for what they thought was the best food destination in the world. 

Recently, CNN published this list and we are proud to say that India 8th on the list! In fact, except Greece and Italy every country on the list is from Asia. Guys, take a hint – it’s time to take a relatively short plane ride. Hop on and tell us about your experience. Let’s take a look at the list and for added points we give you the signature or national dish of that country! How many have you been to? 

1. Taiwan 

The country’s food philosophy is quite simple – eat often and eat well. Their cuisine consists of small eats, big flavours and lots of food. We can get on board with that.

2. Philippines 

There’s more to Philipino food than Balut. Balut is duck embryo and we don’t really want to go there. This might not be the most well-known cuisine on the list but with 7,000 islands and a colourful history – Philippine cuisine has more than their share of delicious dishes. 

Must-Try Dish: Adobo or Lechon 

3. Italy 

For years, Italian food has captivated the world with their use of fresh ingredients and simple cooking. They are known for their use of garlic, tomatoes and of course, olive oil. As much as we love pizza, there is more to Italian cuisine than that. 

Must-Try Dish: Ragu alla Bolognese 

4. Thailand 

Did you know in Thailand, people generally greet each other by asking – “Have you eaten yet?” Well, clearly they are passionate about their food. It’s no wonder than Thai cuisine has enjoyed a rapid increase in fandom and is now one of the most popular cuisines in the world. And rightly so, he combination of so many herbs and spices in each dish produces complex flavors that somehow come together like orchestral music.Who hasn’t tasted the fantastic Thai Green curry, right? 

Myst-Try Dish: Thai Green Curry, Stir Fried Cashew chicken and for something more flavourful – Isaan cuisine (northeastern part of Thailand) 

5. Japan 

Japan applies a level of precision in their food equal to that of their engineering skills. They take their food seriously be it a lavish kaiseki meal representing the seasons of a year or a sushi conveyor belt. You will be hard-pressed to eat bad food in Japan.

6. Malaysia 

Influenced by cuisines of China, India and Malay, Malaysia is the best of many worlds. In a lot of ways, it’s similar to Indonesian food but don’t start a debate of origins of a particular dish in the country. It could get a little heated up. History hardly matters when the dish tastes that good! 

Must-Try: Laksa 

7. Hong Kong 

Hong Kong’s love for food surpasses their love for politics, shopping, gambling and even stocks. Yes, they are some of the most food obsessed people in the world. In fact, if you find yourself in Hong Kong, you’re probably going to get mind blown by the sheer diversity and number of dim sum restaurants. Dim Sums for the win! 

Must-Try: Dim Sum 

8. India 

Known for their spices, Indian cuisine relies heavily on flavours, so much so, that meat and vegetables become an afterthought. One of the highlights of Indian cuisine is the regional varieties – from Goa’s seafood to Kashmir’s wazwan and the coconut-y deliciousness of Kerala. 

Must-Try: Butter Chicken or Dal

9. Greece 

Despite their current economic crisis, Greece is still home to some of the world’s best dishes. Their glistening olive oil is the secret of their postcard looking dishes! \

Must-Try: Greek Salad and Roast Meat 

10. Vietnam 

Famous for their traditional open-air markets, Vietname albeit a small country has beautifully refined and diverse set of dishes!Every city and in some cases every village has its own set of unique local dishes. Their open-air market is a must-visit with stalls that are mostly run by women whose recipes of signature dishes have been passed down from mother to daughter for generations!
