10 Places To Feast on Delicious Thalis in Chennai
For those that don’t know, a thali is literally translated into ‘plate’ is a full meal made up of a variety of dishes. The main purpose of a thali is to serve six different flavours – sweet, salt, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy – on a single plate. According to some, a proper Indian meal should have a balance of these six flavours. Accompanying the vegetables and gravy will be rice and/or roti and it is all served in a large steel plate with small steel bowls filled to the brim with the delicious accompaniments.
Most restaurants only offer vegetarian thalis, but there are some places in different parts of the country that serve non-vegetarian. And depending on which part of India you are in, the thali will differ in small ways. And more over, if you’re really hungry, a lot of restaurants have a bottomless refills concept where if one of your steel bowls is empty, they will top it up for you.
Time to get your thali on in Chennai. Or should we say sappadu?
