It’s a Punderful Life: Gemma Correll’s Food Puns Make Our Day
pun (noun)
pʌn
a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words which sound alike but have different meanings.
Every conversation has a pun these days. It’s almost normal to pause in the middle of a conversation to say ‘no pun intended’ when talking to friends or family, or even in a business meeting. Most minds are wired to find the punny in everything else. There are some that spot it more than others do, but it still doesn’t change the fact that making a pun is considered to be an ‘awesome thing’.
Right at the top of the food chain (pun intended) are food puns. Whether you’re a comedian or an artist or a photographer or an Instagram account, making food puns is so much more fun than animal puns. When you have food items that sound like words you use in regular speech, it becomes impossible to ignore the fact that you have to use it that way.
So to tickle your funny bone this morning, we’ve got the amazing and hilarious cartoons of artist, author, illustrator Gemma Correll to show you just how great food puns are. She’s been doing a series called “Monday Punday” (yes, we know it’s not Monday today!) which features more than just food puns, but she’s got a large collection of food puns anyway and we picked some of our favourites. As she says, “it’s a Punderful life!”
You can check out the rest of her puns on Facebook, or even visit her website for more of her amazing art. Maybe even order yourself a piece or two. Happy Punning!
