IRCTC Plans To Open Two 5000 Square Feet Food Courts At Andheri And Goregaon Stations In Mumbai

Train travelling in Mumbai has never been easy – the crowds during rush hour are enough to give even the bravest adventurer a pause. Throw in the rains and delayed trains and it’s not hard to understand why so many Mumbaikars dread the daily commute.

To provide some sustenance and energy for their train battles, commuters buy snacks and drinks from food stalls on stations which sell vada pavs, sugar cane juice, bhajiyas and cups of teas. Now, thanks to the IRCTC, the food options on the Western railway may get a touch fancier with the launch of large food courts.

Food Court Plans

According to the Hindustan Times, the IRCTC is planning to develop food courts at the Andheri and Goregaon stations on spaces overhead platforms.

The food courts will cover 5000-6000 square feet and will have major fast food chains like McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut. The IRCTC also plans to set up common seating areas at the stations.

“Our plan is ready for both the food courts. They will be constructed on a build-operate-manage basis. For Andheri, the WR’s approval came on Tuesday morning, while the approval for Goregaon is in process. As soon as we get it, the work will be commissioned,” said Arvind Malkhede, group general manager, west zone, Mumbai to the HT.

The IRCTC hopes that the Andheri food court will be open to the public by Novembers.
