Quirky, Vegetarian Eats At It’s Fussion In Powai
Vegetarianism has become more and more popular over the recent years. People across the world are ditching meats, fish and even dairy in favor of greens and pulses for a variety of reasons. Some simply believe it’s a more ethical way of eating, while others believe it’s better for the health as vegetarian food is easier for the body to process.
Of course, India was way ahead of the ball; a large population of Indians are already vegetarian. So, there’s no dearth of vegetarian restaurants to dine at across India.
However, what happens when a staunch vegetarian wants to move away from your regular bhajis and curries into more unfamiliar, exciting food territory? You could either try a bunch of vegetarian friendly, international recipes at home. Or, if you’re too lazy or want to develop your palate a little, you can head to a crop of vegetarian friendly restaurants in the city, which serve international cuisines. The newest kid on the block is It’s Fussion – a fun eatery in Powai’s Haiko mall.
It’s Fussion: The Background
It’s Fussion is brought to your from Dubai from Maheshwari Foods & Hospitality, which is behind Maharaja Bhog, the popular premium veg thali restaurant.
The restaurant offers a variety of cuisines with dishes like Spaghetti Soya Balls, Smoked Cheese Pizza, Pepper Wonton Soup and Mexican Shots. It also offers you dishes a little closer to home like Mushroom Mutter, Chettinad Aloo and Saag Paneer.
Tasting The Talk
We headed over to Its Fussion late last week to sample the fare.
Stepping into the eatery, which shares a wall with Maharaja Bhog, we were immediately struck by the elegant yet warm decor, with a length of sofas upholstered in grey and blue, a faux grass wall and tons of light.
We settled own into one of the plush sofas and began our meal with a cute bottle of mint lassi, which was smooth, creamy and incredibly refreshing. We then followed that up with a cup of Wild Mushroom Cappuccino which was an exciting balance of textures, with a frothy, bubbling surface followed by a creamy, smooth body.
Two Indian starters took the stage next; the Bharwan Sikke Mushroom and the Broccoli Aloo Kalimirch. The Broccoli Aloo Kalimarch was an exciting take on your traditional aloo starters – broccoli and baby potatoes were nestled in a mildly spicy sauce as was the mushroom, which had an indulgent cottage cheese filling.
Next came the Orange Fig Walnut Insalata – a super healthy salad which had generous amounts of walnuts, figs and ice berg lettuce coated in a sweet orange dressing.
Well on our way to becoming happily stuffed we followed up our salad with a serving of Baked Exotic Veggies, which combined a collection of vegetables (including bell peppers, and corn) in a creamy sauce and a Risotto Verdure which was cooked to perfection.
Finally, we were prepared to eat the crown jewel of our meal – the Tandoor Paneer Tikka Pizza. With a wafer crust, the pizza was so very cheesy; lifting one slice resulted in a beautiful waterfall of cheese.
It got even better thanks to the spicy paneer topping which added an extra layer of texture to the pizza.
We wrapped up our meal with a fusion dessert which combined Pineapple Halwa with a soft chocolate mousse – a treat for our sweet tooth and the perfect way to round off our delicious meal.
