American Fried Chicken Recipe

- 1 chicken cut into 8 pieces
- 2 cups Buttermilk
- 2 tbsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Hungarian paprika
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- flour
- vegetable shortening

Instructions
- 1) Put the chicken pieces in a container and cover with buttermilk. Refrigerate overnight.
- 2) On high heat, melt a large amount of shortening in a heavy fry pan.
- 3) Drain the excess buttermilk out of the chicken and then mix the salt, paprika, garlic powder and cayenne pepper into the chicken.
- 4) Dip the chicken in a bowl of flour and shake of any excess flour.
- 5) Put pieces of chicken in the pan and cook until it is golden brown on each side.
- 6) If possible, while cooking monitor the internal temperature of the chicken. It should be at around 180 degrees .
- 7) Remove the chicken from the pan and drain the oil on a rack.
- 8) Serve!
