Ashvita Bistro Treats You to a Unique Parsi Food Experience

on

In the last few months, Chennai has opened her arms to various different kinds of cuisines. From Maharashtrian to Parsi to Bengali, there’s so much more on offer these days. Whatever cultural cuisine you’re looking for, Chennai now has it. You may not get to experience and taste all of it at one time, but take baby steps and sample everything you possibly can.

In 2015, Ashvita Bistro in Alwarpet has started weekend pop-up cuisines in Chennai with “The Bohri Kitchen, Mumbai” and a Bengali food festival, both of which did very well with the foodies in Chennai. And now, Ashvita Bistro brings to you an Authentic Parsi Wedding Dining Experience with Bawi Bride.

Bawi Bride, started by Chef Perzen Patel in Mumbai, was originally a food blog that later became a Parsi food catering business. When people started asking her about Parsi food, Chef Perzen decided that instead of telling people where to get great Parsi food, why not make it and serve it to people?

The Menu

The three day food festival follows a traditional Parsi wedding set up – including the way the tables are placed –where food is served on banana leaves and the menu is set to serve a certain number of dishes. To keep it as tradition as possible, even the way the food is served follows the format that is used at Parsi weddings.

Starting with Sariya, Roti and Lagun Nu Achaar (which is a sweet and tangy pickle made of carrots and raisins). Then comes the non-veg, which is served in a specific order of chicken, fish, mutton – Anjeer Chicken, Patra ni Machichi (using seer fish and a mint chutney that has a hint of sugar to give it a slight sweetness) and Mutton Pulao served with Masala ni Dar. The meal was completed with a bowl of Lagan nu Custard.
