Celebrate Ugadi With Your Family At These Special Events In Chennai This Week

Ugadi is the New Year for the Telugu and Kannada communities in the country and like many Indian festivals, the date is set based on calculations of the position of the moon. As it is a new year celebration, the festivities start the morning of the day itself, with poojas and decorating of houses and preparation of food. New clothes are bought on this day, families gather together and everyone celebrates the festival as a group. It’s known as Ugadi in some parts of the country and in Maharashtra, it is celebrated as Gudi Padwa.

As always, Chennai is celebrating Ugadi with our fellow South Indians and to do it the best way possible, restaurants around the city are preparing special Ugadi meals. The South Indian restaurant at the Taj is hosting an Ugadi feast with a delicious line up of dishes. Only open for lunch on March 28th, this feast is one you cannot miss. They will have ulli garelu, rasakaya, urulai gadda jeedi pappu vepudu, pesarattu and so much more.

As an established South Indian restaurant in the city, Dakshin has so much to choose from in terms of dishes. They have an a la carte menu with Andhra dishes as well as a special thali just for the festival. You can choose from vegetarian or non-vegetarian and make it a proper traditional meal.
