Delhi Ration Shops Come Under The Scanner, Government Orders Inspection

All the ration shops in the Capital are in line to be subjected to random surprise checks by officials, as directed by the Delhi Food and Civil Supplies minister Imran Hussain today. As of now, the inspections have been carried out at two Fair Price Shops in East Delhi. A number of inconsistencies were brought to light during the checks as a result of which, licenses of the two shops have also been revoked.

“During the inspection, irregularities were noticed in two FPSs. The minister directed the officers for taking stringent action against the concerned FPS dealers as per law, including suspension of license of the shops, as mandated under the provisions of law,” said a senior government official in a statement.

According to the official, the minister has also directed the department to carry out similar surprise inspection in other parts of the city as well. Further, Hussain has told officers that all the details entailing information about FPS Dealer, food articles, FPS opening and closing timings, complaint mechanism should be displayed on the boards at these shops.

Currently, ration shops are responsible for providing over 72.78 lakh beneficiaries with all the necessary food staples at subsidized rates as per entitlement in the national capital.
