Falafel’s Opens Up An Outlet In Lower Parel And Has Delicious Non-vegetarian Fare On The Menu!

on

Falafel’s, a quick service eatery in Mumbai serving Lebanese cuisine, has been a part of Mumbai’s culinary landscape for a few years now. With a menu that offered quick and healthy falafels, hummus platters, shawarmas and salads, Falafel’s became a fast favourite with vegetarians looking for a quick bite. Recently, Falafel’s opened up yet another outlet in the Sky Zone of Phoenix Mills Mall in Lower Parel with a drastic change in the menu; the introduction of non-vegetarian fare.

Jumping Off The Vegetarian Wagon

The minute we heard the magic words; non-vegetarian we pulled on some expandable trousers and hopped on a train to Lower Parel, making sure to walk from the station to the mall to further whet our appetites. The new Falafel’s outlet sits next to the Dunkin’ Donuts in the mall’s Sky Zone and overlooks the kids’ play park.

Falafels

We snagged a table near the entrance to Marks and Spencer’s and began pouring over the menu, immediately noticing delicious sounding items like the Shish Taouk Chicken Pocket and the Cheesy Chicken Pocket. The Paneer Schezwan Wrap with an infusion of kimchi, sesame seeds and schezwan mayonnaise sounded like an exciting fusion of flavours as did the Hummus Salad with falafel bullets, hummus, tahini sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions.

After much deliberation we decided to start our meal with the ‘Turkish Tostada’, which we were told is a crowd pleaser across ages and taste preferences. One bite in and we understood why; a supremely thin and crisp tortilla base was piled with cheddar cheese, creamy hummus and subtly spiced refried beans to make a delicious appetiser that became even more impressive when we learnt that the hummus was made fresh, in house each day.

Tostada

We then moved on to try the Chicken Shish Taouk both in a pita pocket and on a platter. Falafel’s allows you to choose between a variety of breads including regular, whole wheat, honey oat and cumin cilantro, to create a pocket or a wrap when you order a falafel. We decided to go with whole wheat in an effort to stay healthy post Diwali binging.

A bite of the pocket yielded a wholesome combinations of flavours, with tender chicken, a healthy dose of lettuce and tomatoes and refreshing Greek yogurt. The Chicken Shish Taouk Platter allowed us to appreciate the flavours of the individual elements better; the platter included miniature pita pockets, a large bowl of hummus, Greek yogurt and babaganoush. Before we piled the elements into the pita pockets, we tasted each separately. Once again, we were impressed with the creamy texture of the nourishing hummus. We also enjoyed the fresh flavours of the vegetables in the tabbouleh and found the chicken beautifully tender and subtly spiced.

Hummus

With our meal we enjoyed a couple of cups of sweet Kahwa tea, which added to the authenticity of the meal. Lebanese cuisine is known for being incredibly healthy and light; exactly what you need during a long day of shopping in Phoenix Mills. After hitting Marks & Spencer’s, Lifestyle and Accessorize, head to Falafel’s and enjoy a nourishing, filling meal full of protein that’ll give bursts of energy to hit Zara and Fab India next. Happy shopping and (as always) happy, happy eating!
