Goan food evokes nostalgia and is a comfort food for many Mumbai-kars. Highly influenced by the Portuguese, the food goes way back in time and what we have today is a food culture which is true to its coastal roots in terms of spices and flavours. So, where do the Mumbai-ites get their dose of delicious yet authentic Goan food? Here’s the list of five places that will surely transport you to Goa.

Snowflakes

Tucked away in the same lane as Kyani, Snowflakes’ interior will remind you of a rustic Irani cafe but don’t be deceived by its looks, it’s pure Goan at heart. Mop up a plate of Pork Vindaloo and all of the meaty gravy with pav. You’ll find the delicious taste of Goa in a plate in Snowflakes as they cook with all their love.

New Martin’s

The unique part about New Martin’s at Colaba is that they make something special each day. Their Fish Curry is absolutely light and flavourful and the sausages have a zing. Go here for dinner after a tiring evening spent shopping at Colaba causeway. Spice lovers shouldn’t miss their chilli fry, it’s sumptuous.

Gomantak

If you want a complete Goan feast in a thali, head to Gomantak in Dadar. This humble place serves delicious bombil fry, chicken sukka and the succulent mutton chop masala. Wash it down with some Solkadhi and you’re ready to binge on their caramel custard. Gomantak also serves a variety of vegetarian dishes as well.

Gables

While Gables serves continental food and pastas too, we’d recommend that if you’re going for the first time, relish the Goan delicacies first. The staff and the eatery is quite humble and will serve you with all their love. Try their Goa sausage pulav, sorpotel, sausage chilli fry and prawn thali. Finish it off with the traditional Goan dessert, Bebinca.

Goa Bhavan Canteen

For the real feel of Goa head to Juhu and binge on the food served by this humble canteen. Their fish thali and prawn thali will satiate your hunger for Goan delicacies. The fish fried in rava, the waiters reciting the menu, and the humble ambience is sure to win you over.
