Food Hygiene Lessons For Ghatkopar Khau Galli By The FDA
The popular food street or khau galli in Mumbai located in Ghatkopar received a lesson on food safety and hygiene last week reports Mumbai Mirror. This special training was a part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Food and Drug Administration’s Eat Right India movement.
Food Safety Lesson
For the training, experts were brought in from a leading food water and air testing company called the Equinox Lab. This training reports the publication has been made compulsory by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). “Popular food sites like the Khau Galli of Ghatkopar has hundreds of people visiting them everyday, the number sky rocketing to even thousands on a festive occasion. At such crucial sites, even with a minor contamination, the scope of food-borne disease is immense,” CEO of Equinox Labs Ashwin Bhadri told Mumbai Mirror.
More than 30 street food vendors participated in the training and were taught the importance of hygiene so that the public health does not suffer. The standards and guidelines laid down by FSSAI were also explained to these vendors. “The efforts of every individual vendor will go a long way in ensuring that food served on the streetside is safe to consume and hygienic,” said Bhadri.
