In 2014, Kishore Biyani’s Future Consumer Enterprises (Future Group) acquired 98% share of the Bengaluru-based supermarket chain from Actis Capital and spread the name within the other southern states. And now, they are planning a major expansion within the south by increasing their store count to 1,000 in the next three years.
“We have a target to have at least 1,000 shops in Southern India gradually in next three years,” Future Group CEO Kishore Biyani told PTI, “We are revamping the chains and opening new stores. We are expanding Nilgiris capacity. We are also launching new products as in bakery segment.”
Along with the expansion, they are definitely going to be looking into a bakery segment and Mr. Biiyani considers this an important part of acquiring the supermarket chain into the group.
Currently, Nilgiris has 160 stores in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala with sales around Rs. 800 – Rs. 900 crore.
