Good or Bad: Big Mac ATMs With Zero Human Interaction? #POLL

McDonald’s recently announced an all-new Oreo menu in Hong Kong complete with Oreo flavoured desserts, beverages, and snacks. Adding to their global image as the ultimate fast food mullah, McD announced a revolutionary Big Mac ATM, which is all set to be unveiled in Boston. The Big Mac ATM that will enable customers to be served without coming face-to-face with any human workers, the Boston Globe reports.

Much like a regular ATM, the Big Mac ATM doesn’t actually make the product it dispenses: “The burgers are cooked on-site at [a nearby] McDonald’s and then immediately loaded into the heated machine, which is refilled on an ongoing basis to ensure fresh quality,” local owner-operator Vincent Spadea explains.

The high-tech vending machines will initially be installed for only a day on 31^st January to promote the chain’s new mini- and maxi-sized Big Macs. Users won’t have to shell out any money, insteaad they will have to provide their Twitter handle so the machine can send out a promotional tweet from their account.

With these ATMs in place, the need for human workers and drive-thru windows may be eliminated and we’re not too sure how to feel about that. A boon as it is for introverts and the socially awkward folk, we can’t help but think long-term implications, even though it’s only a one-day stint. Is this really the future? Zero human interaction? Or are we simply headed towards a world where people will engage in jobs that pay more than what one earns behind the fast food counter?
