Government To Set Up Mini Food Parks, Insists On Sourcing From Farms
The Union Minister, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti addressed a conference of The Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) on Tuesday and talked about the government’s plans to set up mini food parks. She also encouraged the industry to purchase agricultural produce from the farmers for their financial productivity.
Food Parks And Its Benefits
The mini food parks will be set up across the country in order to boost the food processing level. The initiative will be using the Rs. 6,000 crore allotted to the SAMPADA scheme which was recently approved by the government. The ministry also provides for a Rs. 50 crore subsidy to set up a mega food park. This initiative says the minister will also take care of the rising need to reduce wastage of farm produce.
She also added that the processing sector will also benefit if they buy directly from the farmers as they will get the raw material at cheaper rates and of better quality at the same time. She expressed that there is a need to focus on food safety as well.
