Grill ‘o’ Phillic: Triplicane’s Newest Eatery Serves Up A Grillious Treat
Tucked away in a sideline in Triplicane, Grill ‘O’ Phillic is the latest to offer the live-grill feature, along with an elaborate buffet that will satisfy all your cravings. Set up in the Mount Riviera Hotel, Mahathir Mohamed decided to take up the business that his grandfather started many years ago in Singapore. A doctor by profession, Mahathir has a deep love for food and decided to set up a restaurant in Chennai. His grandfather was a chef in Singapore and it became a family business, which then Mahathir obviously picked up and pursued as a secondary career.
Grill ‘O’ Phillic is similar to popular restaurants like Absolute Barbeque and Barbeque Nation wherein they have a live-grill in the centre of the table where they place skewers and the meat and vegetables will cook on the grill for a few minutes before you can eat them. When we asked Mahathir what makes his restaurant different from the others, he said that it’s the “taste and variety that the restaurant has to offer”.
And he’s not wrong. What makes Grill ‘O’ Phillic stand out is that they’ve got seven kinds of home-made sauces – the common and usual ones, but you can taste the difference – that they alternate daily. Their menu also changes quite frequently and their buffet has a biryani, pulao, steamed rice and rotis along with three vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to choose from.
We visited the restaurant this week and were treated to a great meal.
What We Had
We started off with mocktails, a Mango Fussion and Blue Breeze, which were nice balances to the warm afternoon. Then followed them up with a Chicken Bakuteh Soup.
Then came the starters. One thing to keep in mind with starters is that if you eat too much, you’re going to miss out on the buffet spread. Not that that stopped us from trying everything. We had the Grilled Panner, Prawn Satay, Masala Tangadi, Cambodian Prawn, Paneer Lucknow and more.
On the grill there was mushrooms, chicken, fish and paneer. Plus, the grill favourite – pineapple with chilli powder.
We were also treated to a delicious Seafood Platter which includes fish, prawn and squid. This sizzler is given complimentary when there are four people at the table. If the table has 10 people, they will get 2 sizzlers.
And of course we ended our meal with a dessert platter, which included one of everything on display, and a falooda. The most interesting thing about the falooda was the kiwi ice cream that is added to the dessert!
