Grofers Partners With Reliance Fresh And Starts Operations In New Cities

Grofers, the hyperlocal grocery delivery start-up out of Gurugram, has forged a pan-India partnership with Reliance Fresh. The first phase of this partnership will bring Reliance Fresh stores in 14 cities in the country onto the Grofers platform.

What this means is that Grofers users will be able to order from different categories including groceries, fruits, vegetables and general merchandise from Reliance Fresh and Reliance Smart outlets. This service will be available in new cities as well, including Bhubaneshwar, Ranchi, Madurai, Bhopal and Kochi as well as existing cities in the start-up network which include Gurugram, Jaipur, Indoor, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai to name a few.

“We believe the assortment and reach of Reliance in the offline space will add a lot of value to customers shopping on Grofers. We plan to launch exclusively with Reliance Fresh in smaller cities. This will set us on the path towards being a true omnichannel player with our partner Reliance,” Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder of Grofers told Inc42. By the end of April 2017, Grofers has plans to launch in over 70 cities by the end of April.

Dhindsa also added by saying, “Currently, we have rolled out the first phase of this partnership. Herein, we have launched in 5 new cities, including 3 cities where we had previously halted operations.” According to a company statement, the start-up claims to be currently doing 12,000 orders per day.

The company had a few setbacks in 2016, with shutting down of operations in nine different cities and over 67 students sent a legal notice to the company after job offers are revoked. But 2017 is looking to be the year for them to come back with a bang.
