Kaley Cuoco Can’t Get Over Desi Food & We Can’t Get Over That!

on

How often do you step out of your house to elope the monotony of the staple dal chawal sabzi diet? Daily? Once a week? Monthly? Well, I do agree that there is no other comfort food quite like it but it’s okay to order in or dine out once in a while to treat your palate to a little fancier something. A school of thought Kaley Cuoco, a.k.a. Penny from The Big Bang Theory, too subscribes to. Eating out, that is.

The actress recently took to Instagram to share a snippet of her dinner with boyfriend Karl Cook at celebrated Indian-American chef Floyd Cardoz’s new restaurant Paowalla in New York. No big, right? But here’s what kind of put me in a tizzy – Cuoco’s order of khichdi. That’s right, not biryani, not dal makhani, but KHICHDI. The thing most of us refer to as “Saturday lunch with extra ghee”.

So. Many. Thoughts. For starters, why does that khichdi look like pulao (or poha even)? Why didn’t we think of pairing our khichdi with some white wine? How did Cuoco manage to skim past all else and land on khichdi?

But despite all those questions on her Instagram post and elsewhere, here’s what the actress thought of her food: “One of the best meals I have ever had, the ambience was a dream, the chef was incredible and the company wasn’t so bad either,” the actor wrote in the caption below a picture of her enjoying the rice-pulse combo and a glass of wine. This just keeps getting better, doesn’t it?

However, there is a certain debate on whether what Cuoco ate was poha or khichdi, but a recent post by the chef cleared all our doubt. So as it turns out it wasn’t just any khichdi, christened “Guddi’s Basmati-Mungbean Khichdi,” the $45 (~INR 2900) dish is accompanied by spice-roasted cauliflower salad, raita, and pickled mango. Chef Cardoz further revealed in a post on Instagram that khichdi is a Sindhi preparation based on his mother-in-law’s recipe.

In other news, Indian moms just found a face for khichdi. Yay.
