Licenses Of 24 Restaurants In Pune Suspended

on

The licenses of 24 restaurants in Pune have been suspended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports the Hindustan Times. The reason for this was not being able to comply with norms of cleanliness, no records of using pesticides and unhygienic storage of food. The administration found terrible hygiene conditions in the kitchens of these eateries and some even failed to show records of health check-ups of the staff.

Unhygienic Conditions At Eateries

The report reveals that the popular restaurants whose licenses were cancelled includes Naivedyam at Mitra Mandal chowk, Hotel Panchami at Satara Road, The Teres Hotel at Kondhwa, Hotel Samrat at Shankarsheth Road, Hotel Kalpana at Sadashiv Peth and Gokul Pure Veg at Sukhsagar Nagar. The FDA had also found that the freezer used for storing food and ingredients were not clean and in many cases vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were stacked together.

“In the last two months, we carried out raids on a total of 472 restaurants in the city. We had issued notices to 449 restaurants and asked them to take corrective steps within the stipulated time. However, 24 restaurants failed to comply and hence we have taken action against them,” V V Rupanawar food safety officer, Pune told the Hindustan Times. “We have ordered inspection of every restaurant in the city. Restaurants which fail to comply will have their license suspended,” said Suresh Deshmukh, joint commissioner (food).

“We have been serving Pune for the last 42 years,” Rajesh Shetty, owner of Naivedyam restaurant, Swargate told the Hindustan Times. “There has been no case related hygiene of food or food poisoning. It is true that we have failed to respond to the notice on time but now we have submitted all the documents demanded by the FDA officers. So, there is nothing to worry about the hygiene of the restaurant.”
