Mahanand Milk To Be Sold At Ration Shops In Mumbai
According to a report by the Asian Age, the state government of Maharashtra will now allow ration shops in Mumbai and Thane to sell milk and milk products. This decision has a catch which is that they will only be allowed to sell milk by Mahanand which is a government dairy.
The Flow Of Milk
The state government has issued a Government Resolution (GR) to make their decision effective and has been taken to increase the earnings of the ration shop owners says the report. “To increase the income of ration shops, the state government has given permission to sell milk and milk products of Mahanand through legal distributor of the dairy,” reads the GR issued on Friday.
The ration shops have been asked by the government to deal with the pricing and commissions at the distributor level. The government had previously allowed the ration shops owners to sell food items like palm oil, specific strains of wheat and rice, vegetables, groundnuts and grains says the report by the Asian Age. The decision for these products had come in after the strong demand by the ration shops owners.
“We are trying to make the ration system more people oriented. Earlier, relaxation of rules to sell other products was part of it, said Girish Bapat, food and civil supplies minister while speaking to the publication. “Ultimately, we need to keep this system working and healthy. To keep ration shops going has become a tough job. This permission is in the larger interest of ration shop owners as well as customers,” he added.
