If you are an absolute fanatic of authentic Tibetan & Nepali cuisine, then MAMAMOMO could be your favourite choice. Spread over 300 sq. ft. with three standing tables & open kitchen, wall-to-wall with The Whistling Kettle, this quick service joint will indulge you with their homey ambience & delish feast. The sober & minimalist decor of Black & White theme with open kitchen will appease you where you can enjoy your food being ready from the scratch.
“An open Kitchen, friendly staff , Fresh & Delicious food that would remind you of Darjeeling – that’s our USP”, told Tashi Dhendup Kidwai, who has initiated this journey with family friends Sailesh Sarda and his wife Bonisha Sharma Sarda, who after enticing Kolkatans with the flavour of Darjeeling in The Whistling Kettle, have come up again with this new ‘Hill Feel”.
MAMAMOMO
The mama behind the recipes is Pemba Doma Kidwai, mother of Tashi, who has set the menu with authentic recipes that she learnt from her mother, hence they named it as Mamamomo. “All the recipes are by my mother and she keeps a strict vigil on the quality & daily activities in the Mamamomo Kitchen”- flanked Tashi, who with MAMAMOMO wanted to introduce Calcutta foodies to traditional home cooked authentic Tibetan and Nepali cuisine.
Mamamomo Menu
The Menu comprises of Chicken, Pork and Veg momos in steamed, pan fried and ‘momo chilli’ variety. The momos are bite-sized perfection, perfectly portioned with wafer-thin pastry and generously stuffed with a succulent filling. Their house special recipe Chilli Momo is surely an alluring option, a combination of flavour of Kolkata’s favourite Chilli Chicken with that of a fried Momo. You can chow down on a bowl of Thukpa — a light noodle soup with a hearty healthy broth, available in Pork, Chicken, Egg & Veg options. They are offering combo of Rice/ Noodles with Chilli Pork/ Chilli Chicken as well.
However, their chieftain USP is definitely the Nepali style barbecued meat- Sekhwa. Even before you enter, a row of delicious looking skewers of meat will entice you behind the glass wall. The meat is marinated in a traditional spice rub through the day and then grilled slowly over the charcoal.
They serve homemade sauces with Momos. There’s a red chilli sauce made from organically sourced famous round, dalle chilies from Sikkim and Darjeeling, and a sour, green one made with coriander. Both are explosive in flavour and seem to be the perfect accompaniment with the delectable dishes. Mamamomo stocks several pickles and condiments made from Dalle chilli – like Dalle Bamboo shoot, Dalle garlic, Dalle Paste, Dalle with a blend of Indian Spices and Kinema-Dalle with fermented soya bean paste etchandcrafted by their family friend based at Ravangla, South Sikkim.
They have plans to expand the brand gradually targeting at least 5-6 QSR’s in Calcutta within the next 6-7 months, and branch outall over India.
