Orange Is The New Black Chicken Kiev Recipe
A few days ago, a study conducted in the USA revealed that inmates in American prisons prefer using ramen as ‘currency’ over cigarettes. Gibson-Light, the study author suggested that this is because prison food has been steadily declining, so inmates look to ramen for nourishment and filling meals.
Popular show, Orange Is The New Black supports that idea; in the first episode Piper insults the food and finds herself being starved out by Red, the cook. Red constantly complains that her kitchen has a lack of supplies and the inmates never seem pleased with what they’re fed.
The Chicken Kiev
One entire episode of the show is dedicated to a chicken. Piper sees a chicken wandering the courtyard in the prison and tells her fellow inmates about it, sparking a hunting frenzy. Red wants the chicken to make Chicken Kiev:
“All I wanted was to eat the chicken that was smarter than all the other chickens to absorb its power. And to make a nice Kiev.”
Red never does get to make that chicken Kiev, but you can.
Chicken Kiev is a Russian dish made with chicken fillet that is rolled around butter and coated with eggs and breadcrumbs.
Try your hand at this recipe and serve it as a main with a side of potatoes for lunch or dinner.
