Visit the Pope’s Private Farm, this year

The Pope’s New Year resolution sure is a generous one! He’s to open the gates of the Vatican’s private farms to people other than reporters of the Vatican’s newspaper and Vatican staff. Cows, chickens, ostriches, rabbits, and turkeys, as well as a donkey contingent reside inside this 50 acre farm and produce enough for the Pope and his staff.

“We wait for the order from Santa Marta (the Pope’s guesthouse). We proceed according to that order and put together a special basket for the Holy Father that reaches his table and his kitchen,” Osvaldo Gianoli, an estate employee.

So what about visitors tasting some of the produce? They’ll get back to us on that one!
