Dr Who Nut Loaf Recipe
Dr Who fans, listen up! We’ve been sharing a lot of recipes from Game of Thrones and Harry Potter lately and we suddenly realised we’ve been neglecting a whole other fantasy world; the ones we are transported to thanks to TARDIS in Dr Who.
Using TARDIS, Dr Who characters have explored a variety of worlds; inspired by their travels we’re now exploring the foods they found in those worlds, as well as ‘dishes from the real world’.
Dishes From The Real World
In Dr Who, dishes from the real world are food preparations which exist in the real world. Dishes from the real world can include egg dishes, meat dishes, soups and stews, desserts and so on.
One such dish is the nut loaf; mentioned by the tenth doctor in the Children In Need Special.
Nut Loaf
The Children in Need special, which was called ‘Born Again’ was a mini episode which was made for the Children in Need Campaign in 2005. It explores the first defining points of Rose’s relationship with Doctor Who’s tenth incarnation. In it, the Doctor is worried that Rose wants to go home and plans a trip to ehe Powell Estate for Christmas in 2006, saying
“Back to your mum. It’s all waiting. Fish and chips, sausage and mash, beans on toast… No, Christmas – Turkey! Although, having met your mother, nutloaf would be more appropriate.”
Of course, for the rest of us, nut loaf is not a traditional Christmas dish. Instead, enjoy it for a regular meal – it works well as lunch or dinner as a main course.
