Ingredients
For the sponge
- 250 grams plain chocolate
- 175 grams softened butter
- 175 grams caster sugar
- 5 beaten eggs
- 125 grams self-raising flour
- 2 tbsp brandy
For the icing
- 175 grams dark chocolate
- 75 grams butter
- 75 grams double cream
- chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Grease the cake tin and line with baking parchment.
- Break the chocolate into a heatproof bowl and boil over a double boiler till it melts.
- Mix butter, sugar and cream till its combine and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs and add flour if they curdle.
- Fold in the flour and add the melted chocolate and the brandy and mix well.
- Pour the mix into the cake tin and bake for about 50-55 minutes.
- Test the center with a toothpick and remove once it comes out clean.
- Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
- Add butter and cream to the melted chocolate and mix till smooth.
- Pour the icing over the cake and smoothen using a spatula making sure the center and sides and covered with it.
- Put the chocolate shavings as garnish.
