The Kite Runner Afghan Tea Recipe
The commonly served tea in Afghanistan is called Kahwa and in The Kite Runner, the protagonist Amir says that hot tea is served like the house wine. Indians can relate to that too because there is no specific time for chai for us either. So let’s try the aromatic kahwa for our next brew, shall we?

Ingredients
- 4 tsp kashmiri green tea
- 4 pinches saffron
- 2 crushed cardamoms
- 8 blanched and chopped almonds
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 2 Cloves
- 2 tsbp sugar or honey
- 3 cups Water

Instructions
- Keep the water for boiling along with the spices - cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.
- Once the water has boiled add the tea and put the flame on low.
- Let the tea steep for about 10 minutes and while the tea steeps, dissolve the saffron in a little water.
- Strain the tea and add the almonds along with the saffron liquid.
- Mix in the sugar or honey or enjoy the hot brew without any sweetness if you prefer it that way.
