Panchamrut Recipe
Panchamrut, also known as panchamrit, is a holy Indian drink. The word ‘panchamrut’ is Sanskrit for ‘a combination of five nectars’ (panch: five, amrut: nectar), where milk is for purification; ghee for strength; yogurt for prosperity; sugar for happiness; and honey is for sweetness (of speech). The drink is offered to Gods during various Indian festivals or during purnima, and later on served as prasadam along with panjiri.
The recipe for making panchamrut is very simple and can be tweaked by adding more, little or no dry fruits (or even your choice of dry fruit). If you’re making it for an auspicious occasion, it is advisable to add a teaspoon of Ganga jal (holy water). Follow the recipe below to concoct the holy beverage.
- Mix milk, yogurt, sugar, ghee, and honey in a bowl.
- Add Ganga jal.
- Garnish with fine chopped nuts and tulsi (Indian basil) leaves.
- Serve.
