Vendors At Wankhede Stadium Are In Trouble For Charging More Than The MRP For Food And Drinks

on

If you’ve ever been for a cricket match at Mumabi’s Wankhede stadium and felt a bit peckish, you’d have noticed that food and drinks are priced above and beyond the norm. Now, the stadium has cone under the scanner of the department of legal metrology (LMO)..

A Surprise Inspection

Officials from the LMO visited Wankhede stadium on Tuesday, during an IPL match and found some stalls selling items above the Maximum Retail Price. One vendor was charging Rs.60 for Cornetto ice cream, while its MRP isRs.55. Another stall was charging Rs.100 for Magnum ice cream as opposed to the MRP which is Rs.75.

“BCCI and MCA have been asked to explain why this is happening and what steps they are taking to put an end to this. They had earlier assured LMO that they would be appointing a Compliance Officer to look into this. Hence, we have requested them to give a detailed account of action they have taken so far,” said Amitabh  Gupta, the Controller of the LMO.

Both the BCCI and MCA are attributing the responsibility to check vendor pricing to each other.
