Restaurant Food Ordering App Zeppery Shuts Down Its Operations
Zeppery, a restaurant pre-ordering app, has shut down its operations after just six months. The app which allowed users to order food from nearby restaurants was forced to shut shop even after receiving Rs. 50 lakh funding last year from angel investor Suyash Sharma. Zeppery was one of the many food-tech related startups in the country in the process of shutting shop or downsizing due to increasing competition in the sector.
Early Integration
Zeppery’s app offered its customers the option to order food from nearby partnered restaurants. Speaking to Techcircle, Utkarsh Srivastava, co-founder of Zeppery, said, “We were trying to copy, Tapingo, a US-based startup, but realised that this model is too early for the Indian market and the customer retention costs were too high. We have, therefore, decided to move on.” Zeppery had partnered with several food outlets including Haldiram’s, Bikanervala and Moti Mahal. Zeppery’s revenue model included charging restaurants a fixed percentage commission and the company had plans to further support it through advertising and the sale of data analytics to its restaurant clients.
Shifting Focus
With the shutting down of its operation, Delhi-based startup Inweone Technologies which ran Zeppery, will shift its focus on micro-delivery logistics platform. “We want to disrupt the current logistics and delivery model by making it robust, easy and cost-effective at the micro level which can be replicated and scaled up,” added Srivastava. The company hopes to target the growing logistics based business in the coming months.
