The owner of a poultry shop in Sewri was caught while supplying a whopping 25 kilograms of rotten poultry to street food vendors reports DNA India. The shop that stored the rotten chickens was owned by Nimish Dagal and is located in the Bara Devi slum.

Rotten Meat Sold In Mumbai

“Chickens that had died during transportation were purchased by the shop owner and sold it customers, instead of freshly-butchered meat,” Chandrashekhar Salunkhe, FDA Joint Commissioner (Food) told DNA India. “As soon as we got the information, our inspectors went to the shop to inspect it and seized 25 kg of raw chicken meat.”

The report further says that the rotten meat was being sold at Rs.30 per kilogram and the owner did not have a registered license for the shop. An FIR has been filed against Dagal by the FDA in accordance with the Food Safety and Standard (FSSAI) Act. “We regularly check raw food shops but after such cases come into the limelight, the dodgy shop owners are alerted and stop such activities for a while,” Salunkhe added while talking to DNA India.
