Salmonella Fears Come Back Again As Aspen Foods Makes A Huge Recall Of Products

Aspen Foods‘ products are being pulled down from shelves in stores currently following a recall by the company citing the cause as fear of a “Salmonella Enteritidis contamination”. This was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, and according to reports, around 500,000 pounds of their “ready to eat” chicken have been taken down. This includes all frozen meat, raw chicken meat, stuffed meat as well as breaded meat. 

According to reports this incident is merely a follow up on what took place earlier this year, where during the month of July, Aspen Foods recalled 1,978,680 pounds of chicken citing the same concerns of Salmonella contamination. Reports confirmed individuals falling ill after the consumption of these food products. Since the incident in July, the Food Safety and Inspection Service pursued testing products made by Aspen Foods. The results led to them taking down all materials from shelves which were feared to be in contact with the contaminated foods. 

According to Yahoo!, the products taken down are between the “best if used by” date range from Aug. 23, 2016 to Dec. 15, 2016, and the brands that have been hit by this include:

• Chestnut Farms
• Family Favorites
• Home Dining Selections
• Kirkwood
• Koch Foods
• Market Day
• Oven Cravers
• Rose
• Rosebud Farm
• Roundy’s
• Safeway Kitchens
• Schwan’s
• Shaner’s
• Spartan
• Sysco

Salmonella is one of the most feared “food scares” in the country and many companies have taken the hit lately. Individuals with a low immune system, and children are more prone to being victims of this. Another reason for Aspen Foods’ products to be more prone to this is because their meats are ready to eat, or close to cooked, leading to people not necessarily having them cooked completely.
