Salmonella Fears Strike Again As Dole Fresh Vegetables Recalls 33,600 Bags Of Spinach Salad
Dole Fresh Vegetables voluntarily issued a recall of 33,600 bags of spinach salad this week, and reports have claimed that the recall is due to a suspicion of Salmonella contamination. The California-based company is a subsidiary of Dole Food Company Inc and was initially known as Castle & Cooke Fresh Vegetables Inc. Dole Fresh Vegetables is known to produce and market vegetables, fruits, flowers, and packaged foods like salads and frozen foods.
The products that have been recalled fall under the product codes A27409B & A27409A, with the “Enjoy By” date being October 15th and UPC 7143000976. The date can be spotted on the top right corner of the spinach salad package, and the UPC code can be seen under the bar code which is behind the salad package. According to a business report, the spinach salad bags were distributed to stores across 13 US states namely Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
There have been no reports of illnesses so far, but the recall has been made after tests of a sample of Dole Spinach (tested by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development) showed positive for salmonella. Dole Fresh Vegetables has advised consumers to discard the already purchased products and have reached out to retailers to take their products off the shelves immediately.
For those not familiar with salmonella, this virus can cause food borne illnesses and spark symptoms like fever, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting or abnormal pain. Children and the elderly are more prone to the infection, besides individuals with a weak immunity system.
