Satiate Your Taste Buds With Delectable Flavours Of Peranakan Cuisine At Nonya Mumbai

on

Peranakan cuisine comes from the Chinese migrants who came to seek residence in Singapore, Penang, Indonesia and Malacca. This mix of Chinese and Malay influences make up this cuisine which is also known as Nonya. Aptly named, Nonya located in Ginger Hotel, Mumbai brings the age-old cuisine to the city!

A Rendezvous With Peranakan Cuisine

We started off with a heart-warming Malaysian Curried Laksa Soup with chicken. The robust flavours of kaffir lime and galangal were evident and we enjoyed how the condiments like roast garlic, peanuts, chilli sauce, sprouts and coriander were given alongside this delicious soup. It’ll do wonders once it’s rainy weather in Mumbai.

For appetizers we gorged on Prawns on Sugarcane Sticks, Half a Dozen Chicken Satay, Crispy Sambal Fish, Chicken Kothey (Pan-fried Pot Stickers) and Prawn Crystal Dumplings. The prawns and sambal were a part of their One Bite Snacks and were amazing. They recommend biting off the prawn and sucking on the sugarcane stick which we followed and quite liked the appetizer. The prawn was soft and flavourful. The sambal was a spectacular dish as it was crisp, spicy and their sambal was on point. This dish is a must try!

The dumplings were really soft and delicious, the stuffing of both prawns and chicken were quite tasty plus the small salad and dips on the side made the dumpling experience complete. And yes, it can be packed up and taken home to enjoy along with a movie. The Chicken Satay was also quite good but lacked the glam of the other appetizers we tried at Nonya.

For the mains we tried the Nonya Prawn Curry and Bang Bang Angry Chicken both served with rice. The curry was jam packed with flavours and was an instant hit as it ticked all the boxes with regards to taste, depth of flavours and serving style which was in a fondue bowl. This too is a must try at Nonya. Spice lovers are going to thoroughly enjoy the fiery chicken made using peanut, spring onion and of course lots of chilli. The dish was really tasty and really hot!

The experience at Nonya was a great one, we thoroughly enjoyed each and every dish. The flavours played a big role being the essence of the Peranakan cuisine and we’re glad we came down here to savour this grand meal. Do visit Nonya and enjoy a tantalizing meal soon!
