Stalls At Railway Platforms To Give A Bill For Purchases Starting Next Month

This weekend onward i.e. 1^st of September, customers buying products from food stalls at railway platforms can ask for a bill reports DNA India. The stall owners have been asked by the Central Railway authorities to install the point of sale (PoS) system or an electronic billing machine by 31^st August.

The report further says that the stalls are also supposed to display stickers like ‘Food Free, Without Bill’ so as to encourage the customers to demand a bill for their purchases. Even the common street snacks like bhel puri, samosa, vada pav, tea and aerated beverages will be billed. The stalls who do not pay the bill have to give free food to the customers.

“These stalls cannot refuse bills if demanded by a customer. We know it is difficult to monitor all stalls but then it’s a beginning. This way, there will be no question of overcharging,” a Central Railway official told DNA India. If the customers are refused a bill, they can also make a complaint with the authorities. Many of the food stalls have already started using a card swiping machine for transactions and billing.

“This is a welcome move as there will be transparency, and it’ll reduce corruption drastically. The railways should address complaints at the earliest to make this a success,” Subhash Gupta, president, Rail Yatri Parishad while speaking to DNA India.
