Swiggy Acquires Bangalore-Based Gourmet Asian Food Startup 48East
After cementing their higher management by appointing Bhatia as New Supply CEO, with Swiggy Access playing a leading role, Swiggy has now onboarded Joseph Cherian, co-founder of 48East, as COO of Swiggy’s new supply chain business. In addition to this, Swiggy has also acquired Bangalore-based gourmet Asian food startup – 48East.
48East, co-founded by Joseph Cherian and Nabhojit Ghosh, provides gourmet cuisines from China, India, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Turkey and South East Asian countries. They have five in-house kitchens, 50 chefs and a menu that changes weekly so there is no dearth of variety.
Boost To Swiggy Access
In a statement, Swiggy said that as COO of the New Supply business line, Cherian’s expertise in the food infrastructure space will further strengthen Swiggy’s focus on solving for gaps in consumer supply through various strategic initiatives.
“With their deep understanding of the food space and an impressive track record of delivering a great consumer experience, the 48East team will equip Swiggy with additional capabilities. We are excited to work with them towards our vision of changing the way India eats,” Sriharsha Majety, CEO, Swiggy said, according to The News Minute.
Swiggy has been expanding via their New Supply line, which seeks to address existing supply gaps in the market and includes enabling partner restaurants in expanding their business. Swiggy Access is one such initiative of the New Supply line which lets restaurants that are in partnership with Swiggy open up restaurants in areas where there is a demand for their food but where they don’t have restaurants.
