Tejas Express Catering To Be Provided By CSTM And Ratnagiri Kitchens

After 24 passengers suffered from food poisoning on the Tejas Express in October last year, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been trying to mend its ways. The current step taken is the change of kitchen to supply food on the Mumbai-Goa train through their base kitchens at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Ratnagiri reports the Hindustan Times.

Change Of Kitchens

The train that was meant to provide a luxury experience to the passengers travelling from Mumbai to Goa hasn’t managed to catch a break from catering hassles. However, things might change starting 15^th of January when breakfast on Tejas Express will be supplied by CSTM base kitchen and lunch by the Ratnagiri kitchen. The Hindustan Times further reports that CSTM kitchen will also be providing food on the Allahabad – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Duronto Express, Ernakulam AC Duronto Express and Howrah-CSMT Duronto Express starting January 19^th and is being modified currently to cater the supply demand.

The IRCTC is taking no chances this time and hence came the decision of supplying food from its base kitchen on Tejas Express and the others. “It is very important to check the quality of the food being served and therefore, it was decided that food will be provided from the base kitchen,” said an IRCTC official while speaking to the publication. The IRCTC has also been keeping surveillance of their base kitchens in Mumbai (Mumbai Central and CSMT) and have been using closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to keep an eye on quality and hygiene of the food. Plus, there have also been surprise visits to these kitchen by the IRCTC officers.
