The Grand Diet That Keeps Cristiano Ronaldo Fit & Footballin’

With the UEFA Champions League looming around the corner (read: Sunday, 27th May, 12.15 AM-IST), it’s only fair to take a little peek at what goes on at the dinner table at one of the finest football players in the League – Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite flaunting a flawless form on the field, the Real Madrid forward has often times shared his grand meals on social media. Meals that we would probably space out across two or three meals. So how is it that the Portugal national team striker scoffs it down all at once and still look as ripped as a carefully carved marble figurine? The answer is smart eating. “I focus on eating simple whole foods, like fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean protein” Ronaldo was quoted as saying.

Here’s a more thorough look at the ace footballer’s diet.

Lots Of Wholesome & Nutritious Meals

The 33-year-old is known for sweating it out during, before, and after his games and that gives him a wide margin of calories to fill in. In fact, Ronaldo claims one of the secrets to his success was to “eat regularly” and has confessed he can “eat up to six small meals a day.” That said, his meals are not all doughnuts and pancakes as his calories are mostly derived from healthy wholesome and nutritious foods. As per to a report, the soccer player’s usual morning spread comprises of ham and cheeses, croissants, toast with avocado, yogurt, and an array of fruits, which he washes down with pear, apple, or pineapple juice or coffee.

Ronaldo is also a major fish fanatic and enjoys fish like gilt-head bream, swordfish, and sea bass. According to sources, the Madeira-native relishes a Portuguese dish called bacalhau a braz, which is a plate comprised of cod, onions, potatoes and scrambled eggs.

“Ronaldo eats all sort of dishes, as a responsible athlete he is, but the one he likes the most is fish like gilt-head bream, swordfish, and sea bass”, revealed Portugal national team chef Luis Lavrador. And they don’t even have to be ornate dishes, if it’s fish, Ronaldo will most probably eat it. For instance, this basic sardine and bread snack.

Given the rigorous nature of his training regime, Ronaldo stays on top of his hydration regime at all times. “I stay hydrated with a sports drink that gives me energy for training and matches. It has a mix of carbohydrates that boost endurance and is lower than many other sports drinks in sugar. It also contains electrolytes to help with hydration and vitamin B12 that fights fatigue”, he said.

But what’s all this hard work worth if not for some chocolate? The ace athlete has also been snapped enjoying the occasional piece of cocoa. But hey, as long as he’s killing it through those 90 minutes, it’s all fair game!
