To Tip or Not to Tip? Here’s a Guide on Tipping Rules in 41 Countries
The art of tipping has always been a mystical one. To tip or not to tip has been a question that has bewildered travelers for years. And if you’re leaving a tip, how much should you give? Oh, it’s all too confusing. And it’s not just us. In a British survey of 2000 holiday makers, 65% were confused about the rules of tipping when abroad while 25% of people were splurging their holiday cash unnecessarily.
Well, Wego finally took it in their hands to create a handy infographic that explain the tipping culture in 42 countries across the globe. The infographic clearly shows that there is no hard and fast rule across the globe when it comes to tipping.
For example, in Turkey it is mandatory to leave a tip unless it has been included in the bill, while in Argentina you could be breaking the law if you leave a tip. France, by contrast, have made things much simpler, avoiding any ambiguity, they include a service charge already in the bill. In Japan, tipping is quick way to offend people. Some countries, like the USA, have a tipping culture across all services, in another handful of countries, including Austria and the Netherlands tipping is an obligation.
Thankfully, most countries leave the choice up to you. If you like their service, show them something for it. These countries include UK, Italy and Australia.
So if you’re headed on a holiday, take a look at this handy guide to tip like a boss.
